Gaining medals.

Sar far, what I have found out is that what you need to do to increase your chances are 1) Attack the valley using a hero with a high Intelligence. 2) Sending scouts seems to increase your chances of getting a medal. 3) Rose medals are found most often at the wetland valleys; lakes and marshes. I'm sure the other ones are found more likely at the other types, but I don't know which are found where at this point. 4) A quick way to do this is to have multiple armies attacking the same valleys with a lot of scouts...if you can afford to have that many heroes and armies...

I've heard that Rose medals are in grassland and swamp, plus lakes. While lion are at swamp and grassland.
